Top 10 Photos of the Decade | 2010-2020 | Justin Cambridge Photography

These images are not necessarily the “best” of my last 10 years, but each image brings a smile to my face and makes me happy. I’ve come a long way in both my personal and professional life in the past decade - I’ve gone from not even knowing how to take a picture to where I am now. I am so happy that I’ve found something that has enabled me to stop and enjoy everything that life has to offer. This past decade has been nothing short of incredible. I’ve done so much and come so far, all the while photography has been with me.

These images are in no particular order, but there is a reason why I chose each! I chose not to include any images from my professional business (save one portrait) and instead I’ve opted to choose images that make me happy.

Jan 13th 2011 | 1.3 seconds @ f/9 ISO 200 | Canon 40D | Sigma 18-50mm

This shot took SO long to clean up! It was a part of a “self portrait” project in school that was supposed to showcase something about yourself. I’m a huge gamer and so I turned it up to 11 for this shot! Each detail in the photo was thought out, from the bites out of the pizza, to the time on the alarm clock. I placed a shirt on the lamp to diffuse the harsh bulb and add to the messy look, and I’ve also placed a small lamp just outside of the frame to illuminate the TV and my face so that It looks like the TV is on.

Sept 5th 2012 | Multiple exposures @ f/11 ISO 200 | Canon 7D | Canon 24-105mm

Probably my favorite landscape photo I’ve taken to date. Everything from the light morning fog, subtle frost and beautiful colours just screamed at me to pull my car over and take a picture. I’m SO grateful to be able to slow down, stop and enjoy the amazing world we live in. This shot was a composite of about 3 images to capture the bright sun all the way to the dark shadows… I really need to print this picture!

June 16th 2014 | 1/350th @ f/1.4 ISO 400 | Canon 6D | Sigma 35mm Art

My amazing wife. I’d be nothing without her. She is the kindest, most loving person I know. I look up to her and she makes me so incredibly happy each and everyday! We started dating in high-school, and in the past decade we’ve grown up together. I can’t express the happiness she’s brought me, and if even 10% of her kindness wears off on me I’ll be a better person. Picking a photo of her was hard! I’ve forced her to be my model for the past decade and I’ve gotten many images that I’d love to share, this one however stood out as one of my favorites. Her expression, the magical light and her amazing eyes drew me into this picture, just like they do in person. I’m obviously biased but she is the best person in the world - no contest. I can’t wait to spend more decades with her!

July 29 2010 | 25 seconds @ f/9 ISO 200 | Canon Rebel Xsi | Sigma 18-50mm

One of my earliest images, and to this day it makes me smile. This image captures just how FUN photography can be for me. I took a flashlight and painted each swirl individually over a 25 second exposure and captured this single image. Photography has enabled me to look differently at life, to enjoy the small things and think outside of the box to create images like this.

A project I wish I finished! I wanted to capture this half of my family in the same pose, with the same expression and clothing to showcase some of my awesome family members. I started this by taking a portrait of each image in the same light and with a big smile. I definitely need to re-visit this project and finish now that so much time has passed!

Dec 7 2019 | 1/180th @ f/2.8 ISO 6400 | Canon 6D | Tamron 24-70mm G2

My beautiful daughter. At this time of taking this photo Isabella was just over 3 months old, and in such a short time she has brought me so much joy. Her infectious smile melts my heart and makes me so happy. I’ve wanted a family for the longest time, and she has been the most incredible start. Her smile, cute laugh and amazing personalty have been the absolute best way to end this decade!

September 17 2019 | 1/90th @ f/2.8 ISO 100 | Canon 6D | Tamron 24-70mm G2

When my wife asked me why I chose this portrait over all the others I couldn’t giver her a straight answer. I couldn't put my finger on why it held my attention for so long. If I had to guess, I think it’d be a combination of this light fall-off, his soft expression, contrasted with the harsh texture of clothing. The sharpness of my newest lens and his personalty added to one of my favorite portraits of 2019.

Jan 6 2011 | 1/160th @ f/2.0 ISO 100 | Canon 40D | Canon 50mm 1.4 USM

This image captures my wife’s cute personality and the harsh Canadian winter perfectly. Her eyes to this day are my favorite colour. This portrait of her remains as on of my favorites because of her cute expression, the soft snow and the cold feeling. Oh and that scarf! What an awesome scarf.

June 20 2012| 30 seconds @ f/4 ISO 800 | Canon 7D | Canon 24-105mm F/4 IS

All of those green dots are fire flies. This image makes me so happy, yet I wish I could go back and re-take it. If I could re-do this shot now that I’ve gotten “better” at taking pictures and my equipment is superior I think I could take a much better image. This landscape absolutely took my breath away - I’m still in awe of how amazing mother nature really is. This image was a 30 second exposure, and it actually captures a bit of the earths rotation as you can see the stars appearing to “streak” across the sky. This image was an experience I’ll never forget.

Aug 4th 2017 | 1/125th @ f/11 ISO 400 | Canon 6D | Canon 17-40mm F/4 USM

This is a series of images stitched together that really captured how beautiful my trip to Banff was. I only had about 45 minutes at this location and I came away with SO many images that I want to print. This image in particular makes me really happy, and looking back at it brings back a ton of good memories. Even though this location is at altitude I was running around like a kid with all gear while my wife was struggling to just walk up stairs - it was quite the experience! Next time I come I’d love to camp out and spend at least two days in some of the harsher, non tourist locations and really explore what Banff has to offer. I really want to print this image on a massive canvas!

My goal for the next decade is to continually improve, never stop being curious and to enjoy the world with my new family. Here’s to the next 10 years.
